JOB TITLE: Care Support Worker
RESPONSIBLE TO: Team Leaders/Care Coordinator/Managers.
ROLE SUMMARY
To undertake, with guidance and support, the tasks necessary to enable Service Users to maintain everyday living skills or to acquire new skills.
To observe and promote Service User’s choice, independence, dignity, privacy, fulfilment, and other rights.
To help Service Users make full use of the community resources and facilities such as supermarkets, places of worship or leisure facilities.
To help provide the personal care and supervision required by individual Service Users.
The range of tasks that the Support Worker may be required to undertake covers personal care, domestic/practical tasks, and enabling and support work.
JOB SPECIFCATION
Assist in the preparation and implementation of a range of daily activities as directed by senior Assisted Lives staff or by Service Users as part of an agreed care plan.
Assist meeting the personal care needs of our Service Users including assistance with eating, toileting, bathing, dealing with incontinence or shopping and other household tasks. Personal care includes washing, dressing, bathing, toileting and medication monitoring and/or assistance.
To maintain and encourage the physical, emotional, cultural, and social needs of the Clients using a person-centred approach.
To create and maintain good professional relationships with Clients, their family and friends and other stakeholders.
To actively support other Care Workers. Work flexibly and at times of staff shortage, assist colleagues by covering sessions, leave, sick leave etc.
To adhere to all regulatory and statutory obligations and Caring Hand’s policies, procedures and guidelines.
Social duties include preparing and cooking meals, essential cleaning, shopping, bill payments and other tasks as directed.
Enabling and support may include such activities as supervising, monitoring and coaching to empower service users to be as independent as possible and have control over their own lives. Support Workers may also be required to escort or accompany service users to outings, appointments or other events.
To be aware of the personal needs and requirements of your service users, communicating successfully, not only with your service user, their family, friends, and other healthcare professionals.
Maintain appropriate records to meet the needs of the service, observing and promptly reporting back any changes or concerns in your service user’s circumstances or condition. Provide any written reports or records required by the Assisted Lives senior support worker or managers. Help create shopping lists and maintain other records.
Contribute to and work effectively as part of a team.
Deliver support in a manner which is sensitive to the service user’s culture, disability, race, age, sexuality, marital or civil partnership status, transgender status or religion/belief.
Engage and work closely with unpaid carers, such as family or friends, for the benefit of the service user.
Promote anti-discriminatory practice.
Promote the dignity and privacy of service users.
Act promptly and appropriately to protect service users from neglect or abuse.
At all times present a professional and caring image of Assisted Lives and demonstrate behaviours reflective of Assisted Lives values.
Any other duties as delegated by line managers.
The jobholder must always comply with Assisted Lives Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents as per policy.
The jobholder is required to abide by Assisted Lives policies and procedures and to actively support its commitment to equality and diversity in both employment and the delivery of services. All service users, staff and visitors must be treated equitably, with dignity and respect considering their race, gender, ethnic origin, age, disability, sexuality etc.
The jobholder must take responsibility in agreement with his/her line manager for his/her own personal development by ensuring that Continuous Professional Development remains a priority. The jobholder will undertake all mandatory training required for the role.
Respect for Service User Confidentiality
The jobholder should always respect confidentiality and not divulge service user information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role.
Safeguarding Children and Adults
All staff have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults. The jobholder will be responsible for ensuring they undertake the appropriate level of training in accordance with the safeguarding policy training strategy and that they are aware of and work within the safeguarding policies.
