In this role, you will transport a range of essential equipment to a variety of locations and events in the local community.
We rely on volunteers like you to help us improve the lives of people with sight loss. In this role your support will include:
· Transporting equipment, such as gazebos and dog care equipment, in your own vehicle or in a Guide Dog’s vehicle to and from events and venues.
· Supporting with the erection and dismantling of equipment.
· Following our guidelines for manual handling.
Ideally you will:
· Be a confident and conscientious driver - a clean driving licence is preferred, although minor driving convictions may not necessarily preclude a person from volunteering.
· Be willing and able to move a range of objects, including large, bulky and heavy items
will help you settle in and support you during your time with us. You’ll also get:
· A flexible role which fits in with your existing commitments.
· The satisfaction in knowing you are supporting people with sight loss to live actively, independently, and well.
· An opportunity to interact with others, including people within Guide Dogs and members of the public.
This role has 6 hours of training and then you’ll be ready to go!
· To ensure that your vehicle is safe and legally roadworthy to drive.
· To ensure that you have any additional equipment necessary to fulfil your role and that it is in working order whether it be using your own vehicle or a Guide Dogs vehicle.
Over the years we’ve developed a wide range of services with and without dogs to support people living with a vision impairment.
We’re a charity, almost entirely funded by donations, and we are the world’s largest assistance dog organisation. As world leaders in puppy socialisation and dog training, we’re the only organisation to breed and train guide dogs in the UK. We’re also the largest employer of specialists dedicated to helping children and young people overcome the challenges of sight loss.
Volunteering with Guide Dogs is life-changing – and not just for the people we support. Join one of our amazing roles and be part of the pack and you’ll quickly see how the time you give benefits people with sight loss, our four-legged friends and you!
Whether you’re interested in a volunteering opportunity with our dogs, helping people with a vision impairment in your community or getting involved with a group where you live, you’ll be making a massive difference to the lives of children and adults with sight loss. And you’ll also get to have amazing experiences that you genuinely couldn’t find anywhere else.
We simply couldn’t deliver our vital services without our incredible volunteers. Every person is an individual at Guide Dogs, so whether it’s raising a puppy or making a difference in your community, you can make a change that matters.
