A welcoming and well-resourced SEN school is currently looking to appoint a Reception Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Autism and ADHD. The school has built a strong reputation for its nurturing approach and commitment to supporting every child and they are now looking to bring in someone who can provide positive, hands-on support within the classroom.
The Role
As a Reception Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils settle into the school setting and develop their early learning, communication and social skills. While working very closely with the class teacher and further SEN staff, you will provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to the needs and EHCP’s of children with Autism and ADHD.
The role involves supporting these pupils with routines, sensory regulation and engagement in classroom activities while also helping to create a calm and creative learning atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
· Using effective approaches to resolve conflict and promote positive behaviour to encourage a calm, safe learning environment.
· Giving pupils a voice through various communication techniques such as PECS and Makaton, helping them express their needs, feelings and thoughts with confidence.
· Encourage independence, confidence and resilience
· Support pupils 1:1 or in small groups
· Create routines and structured learning strategies
Within this setting, a successful candidate will:
· Have previous experience supporting children and young people in a SEND setting
· Have a care qualification, Teaching assistant qualification or degree
· Be calm, nurturing and resilient nature
· Be genuinely passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning
· Take a flexible, team-orientated approach
· Be able to start immediately or with little notice
· Be knowledgeable about ADHD and Autism
Experience with visual supports, sensory strategies or behaviour support techniques would be highly beneficial, but the school is also open to candidates with the right attitude and transferable experience working with the right attitude and transferable experience working with young people.
Working Hours
8.30am – 3.30pm
Term – time only

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
